Hitwise Intelligence: Celeb and entertainment searches dominate Google News: Not really a surprise, but still it's worth noting what sells the next time you want to write a hard-hitting story that's taken a week to research. Does that mean that people no longer have an appetite for solid, researched, objective journalism. No, not in my view, but it does need to be targeted in the right way to sell it to the best audience.

The Sentinel Business Awards 2008 - business as usual? Not quite

It's amazing, if completely unsurprising, how the state of the economy can impact on a celebration. Take for example The Sentinel Business Awards.

I've been to finale of The Sentinel Business Awards for eight years now, and reckon last night's bash was among the most sober events I've ever seen.

But given the fact that the country is in the grips of a recession which apparently has plunged the world into its lowest economic position for 60 years, I suspect that most firms would not want to go overboard.

10 songs to remind me of Easter Monday nights in Hanley indie nightclubs (1991-1995)

The advent of the clocks going forward always reminds me of Monday nights piling into Hanley for a night during the weeks away from university, and listening to a variety of indie classics. Here's just a few that I can remember.

More trainers thrown over telephone lines [PICS]

I'm not sure why, but is this the start of an epidemic of telephone lines starting to sprout footwear? Is it something we've got to let BT know about?

And have you got any pictures of such phenomena that you could send on?

And a close-up:

Keith Loutit: video maker with sharp focus on small-town life

Serendipity is great, especially on the internet when you find diamond videos like Bathtub IV by Keith Loutit.

I was aimlessly going through the list of blogs, newspapers and other gubbins I'm registered when I stumbled on this great short video based on life around Sydney, Australia. Just watch it, and you'll see what I mean.

Google maps: Wedgwood creditors

I've finally managed to get my Google Map of the creditors of Wedgwood working, after a bit of work to get the feed right.

Admittedly, it's four weeks later than I had hoped, but today has been the first chance I've had in a while to have a play with Yahoo Pipes.

To be honest, I'd already done the hard part in ripping the list of creditors out of a PDF document and then plonking them into a Google spreadsheet.

Music: Why Doves and the Manic Street Preachers deserve your attention

Easter is always a good time for music I've found. I accept it's a big generalisation, but after suffering in the winter, you tend to find all the big releases start to come out for the summer release.

Today, I've picked up on three bands which I love that have recently put out new stuff for people to listen to.

First of all, there's Doves with Kingdom of Rust, then there's It's Blitz from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and then there's the superbly verbose Jackie Collins Existential Question Time from the Manic Street Preachers.

Wedgwood: Another quiet before the storm

It's coming up to a month since KPS formally bought Wedgwood, and slowly edging towards the 40 days in which the new owners of the luxury firm would reveal their plans for the company.
