Google maps: the return

By elksie - Posted on 24 February 2009

Another day, another Google Map. This was based on a list of local pubs, restaurants and clubs in the Staffordshire Moorlands, close to where I live. That is Cresswell, Draycott and Forsbrook.

Some of the map references appear to be a little bit out, particularly the Izaak Walton, but that's because the geo-coding is linked to postcode rather than specific longitude and latitude.

Information was scraped from the Staffordshire Moorlands District Council website and piped through Yahoo Pipes before being dropped into Google Maps.

The only difficult bit was grappling with 'Pipes output feed in such a way that it matches up with the Georss details that Google Maps and other mapping applications require.

The format, for my future reference, is:

<description> <geo:lon> and <geo:lat> </geo:lat></geo:lon></description>

I may well come back to this to add a bit more detail on to the map.

If anyone can suggest ways of customising the maps further that would be great.

For example, is there a way of running the data alongside the map in a table.

just wanted to say thanks for your tips on google maps done a few on my site http://www.inorris.tk was trying to do stoke planning applications, but hit a block that not all had postcodes so they yahoo pipes would only show around 50%. Got it touch with council asked about there GIS system very helpfully but no joy. then found zeemaps.com and that works on street address no need for post code, but not a real google map as you have to rely on their website as far as I can see. http://www.zeemaps.com/131067 Any advise for just using address in yahoo pipes
